To recognize Stem Cell Awareness Day in October and the World Stem Cell Summit this week, we share Vice Chancellor and Dean Julie Ann Freischlag’s update from the UC Davis Health System on animal and human treatments based in regenerative medicine. Whiskey the dog stars as evidence that collaborations among doctors, veterinarians and engineers create treatments that heal animals and can be applied -- in much the same ways -- to humans. Dean Frieschlag also describes promising advances for treating bone cysts and cartilage repair coming from UC Davis Institute of Regenerative Cures, the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
