May, Napolitano Speak Out on Raids

By News and Media Relations on July 14, 2019 in University

Chancellor Gary S. May issued the following statement today (July 14) in support of UC President Janet Napolitano’s declaration that UC “will not be a willing participant” in large-scale immigration raids that she said “are designed to strike fear in our immigrant communities.”

We wholeheartedly endorse and agree with President Napolitano’s statement. Our immigrant communities are what make universities, this state and this nation so unique and so strong.

If anyone needs support, we encourage you to contact our AB540 and Undocumented Student Center. The center’s website includes updated responses to frequently asked questions about DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals).

All of us must do what we can to be compassionate in an atmosphere of fear. We remain committed to doing all we can to foster an inclusive and welcoming community.

Gary S. May
Chancellor
