UC Davis Students Turn Grains From Beer into Food

The grain left over after beer is brewed is normally thrown away, but soon it could be made into food. A group of students taking Food Product Innovation and Development had the idea and set about developing "Beer Bites" for the capstone course. — Video by Joe Proudman/UC Davis

Grads deck out their caps, win prizes

It's not unusual to see messages to parents or flashy decorations atop the mortar boards of graduating UC Davis students, but an annual contest continues to celebrate the best caps and bring them to a wider audience. A competition for decorated grad caps has awarded alumni gear and a $200 gift card to the graduates who wore the caps pictured above. The contest, judged on the number of "likes" each cap received via the UC Davis Facebook page, is in its third year. All 160 entrants can be seen in a photo album on Facebook.

Commencement celebration from all sides

This spring's commencement ceremonies featured a new celebration: blue and gold streamers fired from canons inside The Pavilion, replacing the balloon drop that marked the fall ceremony. A dozen commencements were held this month and last, and can be watched online.

Watch the streamers drop in a 360-degree video on Facebook.
