The president of Afghanistan addresses the recent opening session of his country’s fourth annual National Agricultural Extension Conference, voicing support for extension offices that — with UC Davis assistance — are working to rebuild Afghanistan’s agricultural industry. President Ashraf Ghani considered the meeting so important that he hosted the opening session in the Presidential Palace. The session, pictured above, drew officials from Afghanistan’s agriculture, irrigation and livestock ministry; extension workers from across the country; and farmers and agricultural development partners. UC Davis, through the International Programs unit in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, has coordinated the USAID-funded Afghanistan Agricultural Extension Project since 2011.
